This presentation highlights the latest advances in deep learning across fundus imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and visual field analysis, drawing on evidence from multicenter trials and real-world applications. However, the rapid pace of innovation has highlighted significant barriers to clinical integration. Challenges regarding data quality, algorithmic interpretability, and generalizability remain unresolved. This talk provides a critical examination of these limitations, dissecting their underlying mechanisms to offer a transparent view of where current models succeed and where they fail. We will also outline the future directions necessary to address these hurdles, offering practical steps to bridge the gap between research performance and patient impact. Beyond diagnostics, the presentation will also explore the expanding horizon of AI in glaucoma research, specifically its role in accelerating drug discovery and revolutionizing patient education.
