Dr.Pannet Pangputhipong
Dr. Pannet is among the first Thai ophthalmologists to perform phacoemulsification in Thailand, beginning in 1990. His dedication to learning and innovative thinking enabled him to develop advanced surgical techniques to manage complex and challenging cataracts, which are frequently encountered in Thailand. With a strong passion for teaching, Dr. Pannet is known for his ability to simplify complex concepts and explain them clearly from the ground up. He has participated in numerous live surgeries, teaching courses, and lectures around the world, including in Italy, where he received the “Best Surgeon Award” during a live surgery at Dr. Lucio Buratto’s 1998 Video Cataratta Symposium. His contributions to education and surgery have been recognized with several honors, including the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) Certified Educator (ACE) Award in 2004 and the APACRS Lim Lecture Award in 2015. Beyond academics, Dr. Pannet has played a key role in coordinating Thailand’s national campaign to eradicate cataract blindness. In recognition of his leadership, he received the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Prevention of Blindness Award in 2003. Dr. Pannet’s service has also been honored at the national level. From the Royal Thai Government, he received Thailand’s Outstanding Citizen Award in 2007. In 2016, he was recognized by the Thai Medical Council with the Outstanding Physician Award. Dr. Pannet Pangputhipong is currently serving as the President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand (RCOPT) and the President of the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS).
