Dr.Yueh-Chang Lee
Dr. Yueh-Chang Lee is an attending ophthalmologist at Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, specializing in inflammatory eye diseases, retinal disorders, and cellular therapy. He earned his M.D. from China Medical University and an M.P.H. from Harvard University, and completed advanced fellowship training in uveitis at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. Certified in cellular therapy by Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, Dr. Lee combines surgical expertise with regenerative medicine innovation. With Ph.D. study in Translational Medicine at Academia Sinica and Tzu Chi University, his research centers on reprogramming human fibroblasts into retinal progenitor cells, opening new avenues for vision restoration and ocular regenerative therapy. Dr. Lee’s contributions have been recognized with the National Innovation Award (2023) and the Future Tech Innovation Excellence Award (2024). In 2025, he co-founded and now serves as chairman of Mercy Cell Co., Ltd., a biotechnology company developing advanced cell-based therapies for retinal diseases. The company’s therapeutic platform has been supported by the National Biotechnology Research Park and is progressing toward clinical translation.
