Rina La Distia Nora is an ophthalmologist and associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas
Indonesia, specializing in ocular infection and immunology. Her clinical and research focus includes uveitis,
ocular tuberculosis, and immune-mediated eye diseases.
Rina began her academic and clinical career at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in 2010. She led the RSCM Center for Translational Research and Precision Medicine until 2024 and now serves as the Head of the RSCM Eye Bank, where she advances research-integrated care and eye banking initiatives in Indonesia.
She earned her PhD from Erasmus University Medical Center, the Netherlands, with a dissertation on
Mycobacterium tuberculosis-associated uveitis. Her research portfolio includes biomarker studies,
immunogenetics, randomized clinical trials, and applications of artificial intelligence in ocular
inflammation.
She has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as Ocular Immunology and
Inflammation, Eye, IOVS, and Survey of Ophthalmology. She is the principal investigator of a randomized
clinical trial on antitubercular therapy for uveitis and a collaborator in international studies. Rina is an
active member of the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS), International Uveitis Study Group
(IUSG), and the Indonesian Ocular Infection and Inflammation Society (INOIIS). She also contributes to
education, policy, and advocacy through CAREUVINA and is a member of ALMI (Akademi Ilmuwan Muda
Indonesia). She regularly lectures in national and international forums and remains dedicated to advancing
science-based, context-relevant care in developing countries.
